Daylight comes

bringing relief

a tortuous night

tossing and turning

heart pounding

blood racing

body aching

emotions unable to bear

I clutch my chest

this sleepless night

I suffer long

longing for something

I can never have

reaching for air

gasping for breath

my chest is heaving

crying silent tears

time passes slowly

it's medicine works slow

I wish for something

to dull this pain

to make it pass quickly

yet I suffer

hoping this pain

will stick in my head

serving a lesson

I won't forget

pain is my teacher

it has served me well

the more I feel it

the more it teaches

and I will no better

to avoid the injury

so I wait

as time marches on

ever so slowly

doing it's job

healing my wounds

leaving a scar

my activities distract me

until evening comes

knowing I'll suffer

but not so bad

I'm patient

I let it burn

because I know

once these wounds heal

I will be whole

a stronger woman

with a lessoned learn

not to let my heart

be broken again
