Blood Red Sky
A little girl stares out the window,
Rain is pouring down.
Boredom creeps into her soul,
She cannot make a sound.
She wants to go outside to play,
But her mom is laying down.
And since her'es nowhere near to go,
She has to hang around.
That girl has grown up since then,
And now she's got a car.
But the price of gas is rising fast,
So she cant go very far.
Yet again she wishes
That there was something more to do.
That there was somewhere else to go,
At least something that was new.
A couple long years later
COmes the chance to get away.
Graduation's floating near,
College is the way.
She thought that she could make it,
She could have her dreams come true.
But the money wasn't there,
And so she had to lose.
So she sat and watched the years fly by,
Staring out the window.
She watched her daughter play outside,
And time began to slow.
She watched a girl just like her,
Wild, happy and free.
Not a soul could bring her down,
And she never wanted her to leave.
Now her girl is all grown up,
And taking off forever.
She doesn't know when next she'll see her,
But she's guessing never.
She moved away and went to college.
She got an awesome job.
She started making lots of money.
And now she has a son.
The first woman has gotten older.
Sitting empty and alone.
Rocking slowly back and forth,
She reaches towards the phone.
And far away, on the other end,
Her daughter says 'Hello.'
'Hey, honey, how you doin'.
I wanted just to say,'
'My breath is getting shorter,
And my sight is getting dim,
So promise me you'll always remember
That your dreams come from within.'
